Cranio-Sacral Therapy

Transforming Lives

Cranio-Sacral Therapy (CST) is an exceptionally gentle yet profoundly powerful therapy. It works with the whole person and supports your body's innate ability to balance, restore and heal itself. This can enable improved function on all levels with an overall integration of body, mind and spirit. A greater sense of well-being, contentment and enhanced quality of life - potentially bringing profound transformations in your life.

Suitable for all ages

Due to it's gentleness it is suitable for everyone from newborns to the elderly. Cranio-Sacral Therapy is non-invasive which Patients may use for acute physical problems like headaches or back aches, or long-standing problems both physical and emotional. Others come for ongoing support in their busy lives and for help to meet life's challenges. The practitioner senses tensions in the body and helps to release them in a supported and comfortable way. During or after a session you may feel calm and energised, with increased clarity of mind and a feeling of well-being.

During a session

Your practitioner will take a written case history, listening with care to the reasons for your visit. This part of the session is important, both for gathering information and to establish a good understanding with your practitioner. The session typically lasts just under an hour, although this can vary. You remain clothed and will usually lie face up or on your side, or you may be seated. The practitioner makes light contact with your head, the base of your spine, and other areas, encouraging your body to relax and begin to make the changes it needs. Because the body functions as a whole, your practitioner may focus on areas other than where your symptoms occur.

When a Cranio-Sacral Therapist places her hands lightly on you, she is using them to listen to you in much the same way that a counsellor might listen to your words. Your body responds to this sensitive touch by beginning to listen to itself. A feeling that you have been heard in the truest sense of the word is a common experience during and after a Cranio-Sacral session.

After a session there is occasionally a short period of adjustments part of the healing process. Sometimes Patients relief after only one or two sessions. For long-standing problems further sessions may be needed. Some Patients find they benefit from regular treatment over and extended period of time and say that, as well as noticing improvement in their physical or emotional symptoms, they feel that they have more awareness of their own needs and strengths and their quality of life has improved.
